New ‘Scream’ movie starring David Arquette to film in Wilmington this fall

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Another big Hollywood franchise has set its sites on Wilmington to film its latest feature film.

In a press release obtained by our sister station WWAY, filming will start later this year in Cape Fear for “Scream 5″ once safety protocols are in place from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Monday, it was announced David Arquette would be back as Sheriff Dewey Riley in pursuit of Ghostface in the “Scream” relaunch.

Officials have not said much about the plot of the film, but they did confirm it will be an original story co-written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.

Though Arquette is the first member of the film’s original cast to be announced as coming back, WWAY reports there have been conversations with other original cast members as well.

‘Scream’ is a long-running horror franchise which generated four feature films. The films went on to make more than $600 million in worldwide box offices.
