Next tower to rise in uptown is underway

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Duke Energy Corp. plans to close on the sale of the site of its proposed 40-story uptown tower by Dec. 20, saying it has identified investors in the sale-and-leaseback deal for financing as well as the project’s final costs.

A filing Duke made this week with the S.C. Public Service Commission stated the property will be sold to an unnamed financial partner and asks for expedited approval. It said it has just recently determined how much the project will cost and identified its “development partners,” which have agreed to the target date for closing.

Duke has already broken ground at the site, which is slated for completion in 2022.
