Nine injured when van hits median in northwest Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Nine people are expected to survive after a serious crash in northwest Charlotte Sunday night.

A van wrecked on Freedom Drive near Toddville Road about 7 p.m.

One witness said the sound of the crash scared her.

"I was walking this way, next thing I know, a car comes, boom, and I looked back because I thought they was shooting or something.  And it was a car that was crashed right there.  It was just so scary because it was just boom," said witness Kamya Chaney.

The victims went to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

It is not yet clear what caused the wreck.
