‘Nobody was helping me’: Action 9 gets Charlotte woman her money back after Priceline booking glitch

CHARLOTTE — The holidays are upon us, which means travel is picking up. More people are expected to travel this Thanksgiving than last year. According to the American Hotel and Lodging Association, more travelers are expected to stay in hotels as well.

A south Charlotte woman booked a trip earlier this year on Priceline, but she said she ended up paying double after a glitch happened. She reached out to Action 9′s Jason Stoogenke, who helped get her money back.

Karen Love was enjoying her trip to Ireland for a destination wedding when an unexpected call came from the hotel, claiming she never showed up the last two nights. After looking into it, Love realized that she had been double booked by Priceline.

“I never got a confirmation,” Love said.

Since she never received a confirmation for her booking, Love booked for a second time. After reserving her room again, she received her confirmation and assumed everything was fine, but in actuality, she had two reservations. This mix-up caused Love to overpay by about $800.

Love tried to turn her complaints to Priceline, but said she was given the runaround.

“Nobody was helping me. I had just dropped it. I’m like, ‘Well, I guess it’s just a total loss,’” Love said.

A close friend suggested that she reach out to Action 9.

“The minute I mentioned you guys, all of a sudden they’re very helpful,” Love said.

Priceline told Channel 9 that Love didn’t get the first confirmation due to a technical error on Priceline’s end.

The company apologized to Love for the confusion and inconvenience. The company also said it would provide a full refund.
