NoDa distillery transitions from making moonshine to hand sanitizer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte distillery is working on free hand sanitizer for first responders and another business is helping them.

Dragon Moonshine is located near NoDa and they are making sanitizer for first responders and corrections officers, but they needed containers to put it in.

So, a global packaging company, Amcor, gave them 9,000 bottles.

“It seems to me that disasters bring out the worst and best in people. I got a chance to see the best in people,” Rick Lavine from Dragon Moonshine said.

Dragon Moonshine has pumped out 110 gallons of sanitizer so far.

A Statesville distillery is also making hand sanitizer and giving it to first responders.

Southern Distilling Company made nearly 80,000 bottles in less than two weeks. The owners not only hope it will save some jobs, for now, they’re hiring people to help make all of the hand sanitizer.
