New car gifted to family of woman murdered while helping stranded motorists

CHESTER COUNTY, N.C. — A South Carolina nonprofit has gifted a new car to a family in need following the murder of a loved one.

Vernon Robinson received a Chevy Trail Blazer SUV from the nonprofit on Monday. Vernon said his family had been without a vehicle following the murder of his wife, Linda Robinson, over the summer.

Investigators said Linda Robinson, 44, was killed in August by two people she pulled over to help who were stranded on the side of the road in Chester County.

Since the murder, the van, which is the family’s only vehicle, has been tied up in evidence.

“When I met the family, he was so distraught and he was like, ‘Hey, this is our transportation.’ Of course, we couldn’t give it back because it was in evidence and it kept bothering me,” Sgt. Diane Watson said.

Watson is a Victim’s Advocate for the Chester County Sheriff’s Office. She said she asked the sheriff if she could reach out to Middleton’s Village to Village Foundation, which provides cars to families in need.

“They read my email, called and said ‘Hey, we’re gonna gift you a car’,” Watson said.

Vernon Robinson told Channel 9 the car is a blessing to his entire family and another demonstration of the love that has kept them going.

“I love all of you. Everyone’s been great. Everybody’s been so good to me and my family. I can’t even explain it,” Vernon Robinson said.

Middleton’s Village to Village Foundation is a Charleston-based nonprofit. This is the first time the organization has donated to anyone in the Chester County area, but officials said they wanted to help after hearing the Robinson’s story.
