North Charlotte apartment residents expect more from management after cars vandalized

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Residents of a north Charlotte apartment complex say cars in the parking lot are often damaged with streaks of black spray paint or flat tires.

"You park in the evening, your car is fine,” said resident Christina Christine. “Then, you wake up Saturday morning and it's not fine."

Christine said she is just one of many residents at Alta Prosperity Village whose car has been vandalized.

"Someone has black spray paint,” she said/ “They walk around the cars and spray paint them."

Channel 9 found seven different police reports from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department documenting the vandalism cases.

Another car was vandalized Friday night.

Christine said the damage doesn’t stop with the spray painting.

"Thankfully, our tires weren't slashed because that's another thing that's been happening along with the spray paint,” she said.

Residents told Channel 9 they are looking for their own ways to avoid becoming a victim.

"After the initial event, quite a few people took the garages and now they actually have a waiting list for people trying to get into the garages,” Christine said.

Christine said apartment management sent an email reminding residents to lock their car doors and remove valuables.

Christine said the expected more from management.

"It's sad that we're all passing the word around, get a bottle of Windex and a cloth and you'll be fine,” she said.

It's not clear if there are any cameras at the apartment complex to catch the suspected vandals in action.
