Officials: Man rescued after 30 foot fall into rock quarry

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Emergency crews have airlifted a man to the hospital after they said he fell more than 30 feet into a Rowan County rock quarry early Thursday morning.

Officials told Channel 9 that an employee of Carolina Quarries on Earnhardt Road, just off of Highway 152 near Rockwell, fell into the quarry around 7:30 a.m.

Rescue crews had to use 4-wheelers to get the man out of the quarry and he was then flown to a local hospital.

No further information was immediately available.
