Police investigating deadly accident in Huntersville

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. —

Highway 73 in Huntersville is back open hours after a deadly accident.

Investigators said a woman died when the car she was riding in slammed into another car on Sam Furr Road near Blythe Landing Park.

Two other patients were transported to CMC with serious injuries.

Police said the driver of a white car was in the turn lane on Highway 73, trying to turn left into Blythe Landing Park.

A man and woman in a black Nissan were driving westbound at a high rate of speed and clipped the turning car, police said.

Both vehicles knocked into a telephone pole.

Officers said the woman wasn't wearing a seat belt and died at the scene.

The driver of her car and the driver of the white car were rushed to CMC Main with potentially life-threatening injuries.

Police said they are still trying to determine if charges might be filed and do not know if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
