The suspect, Greyson Ferrell, 16, was wearing a bulletproof vest and was not seriously injured. Neighbor John Roeder said he was listening to a very loud and intense argument going on at the house next door.

"He was trying to fight his sister, hitting her car window," Roeder said. "Then they called police, they showed up without lights."

Roeder told Channel 9 his teenage neighbor continued to argue and raised his voice at police.

"He was ranting and raving, yelling at the officers," Roeder said.

That was when he heard four to five gunshots.

Because Ferrell was also shot by Cornelius officers, Cornelius police has requested the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police take over the investigation into this incident.

Quattlebaum is doing well and expected to recover fully, according to the police news release.

"He wishes to express his appreciation for all the outpouring of support," the news release said.
