Teen motorcyclist dies after losing control

CHARLOTTE — Investigators have identified the teen who was killed in a motorcycle crash in southwest Charlotte Saturday.

Reid M. Sampson, 19, died after police said he lost control of his 2007 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle  and struck a tree on West Tyvola Road near Tyvola Centre Drive.

It's unclear what caused Sampson to lose control but investigators said it appears he applied the brake when entering a curve in the road and slid into the right curb.

Sampson was ejected from his motorcycle.

Medics pronounced him dead at the scene of the crash.

Police said no other vehicles were involved but some witnesses stopped to try and help after the accident happened.

Speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash, according to investigators.
