Man dies from head injury in Gaston County head-on collision, troopers say

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A man died in a two-car accident Saturday afternoon in Gaston County, troopers said.

Troopers said a driver in a Nissan Maxima went left of center to go around a van that was stationary in the center of the road, partially blocking the southbound lane, and collided head-on with 33-year-old Jan Michael Dean Reinhardt, who was driving a Honda Civic, on Lowell Spencer Mountain Road near Sutton Carpenter Road.

Troopers said Reinhardt, who died at the scene, was not wearing his seatbelt and suffered a head injury.

Officials said the two people in the Maxima were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Troopers are investigating.

The name of the victim has not been released.
