Man shot in chest; car he was driving crashes into house, police say

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man is dead after being shot in the chest and pulled from a car that crashed into a house in east Charlotte Friday morning, according to homicide investigators.

Firefighters said a car crashed into the first floor of a two-story house on Pinyon Pine Lane near Harrisburg Road just after 9 a.m.

MEDIC said they tried to treat the victim in the front yard, but couldn't save him.

The victim, 29-year-old Kelvin Dunlap Jr., lived at a house nearby.

A person was home upstairs during the crash, according to authorities. That person was not hurt.

Police said they don't have a suspect in custody at this time, but there is no threat to the community.

CMPD said it is asking any neighbors if they heard or saw something to come forward.

"There’s not an acceptable amount of violence. One incidence of violence in a city is a concern so there’s not a threshold where we weren't concerned before and we're concerned now," Major Ron Butler said.

The house was deemed unsafe to live in after the crash so the Red Cross will be helping the family.

This is an ongoing investigation.

Anyone who has information on the case can call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
