CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Humane Society of Charlotte had a high-profile guest in the house for the launch of its fundraising campaign for a new facility.
Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera and his wife, Stephanie, are serving as honorary chairpersons of the nonprofit’s “We Are Family” campaign to raise $15 million. They were on hand at a kick-off event Tuesday at HSC’s current home on Toomey Avenue.

The organization’s planned, 46,000-square-foot animal resource center, to be constructed on a 17.5-acre site on Berryhill Road in west Charlotte, would dramatically expand the Humane Society’s capacity for services, according to a news release. In addition to substantially more space and expanded clinic services, the facility would feature an outdoor dog park and education center for hosting behavioral and training classes, school field trips and summer camps, birthday parties and other activities.
