Relatives say Parsons moving to Fayetteville area

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — The adoptive parents of missing 15-year-old Erica Parsons packed a U-Haul truck Tuesday and drove more than 100 miles towards the Fort Bragg area.

Channel 9 reporter Kathryn Burcham took a photo of a U-Haul truck parked in the driveway.

Burcham said the parents could be seen loading furniture into the truck from the house and from a shed in the back yard. A pickup truck that was also parked at the home had items loaded into the back as well.

The family returned on Wednesday to pack up more items into the moving truck.

Relatives told Channel 9 the couple is moving to the Fayetteville area.

Their attorney, Carlyle Sherrill said it was time for a break.

"There's been a lot of publicity and they've gotten lots of leads so when they get a lead they need to check it out and see if it's going anywhere so they are cooperating fully with that," Sherrill said.

Neighbors said they are relieved, but also still want answers about little Erica, who vanished nearly two years ago, but was only reported missing in July.

The Rowan County Sheriff's Office released a statement late Tuesday stating investigators were aware that Casey and Sandy Parsons were preparing to move from their residence in Salisbury.

"Investigators will remain in contact with the Parsons and their attorney, as the investigation progresses," the statement read.

Sherrill said he would not be surprised if they moved with the intense media attention surrounding them and their house.

Investigators removed items from the home several weeks ago during a search for evidence in the disappearance of Erica.

They removed pieces of carpet, drywall and other items during that search.

Tuesday marks the 29th day since Erica was reported missing.
