Passenger killed in crash on rural highway in Stanly County

STANLY COUNTY, N.C. — One person died in a crash Monday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Stanly County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said a Dodge Ram truck was traveling south on North Carolina Highway 742 near Old Sandbar Road. The truck ran off the right side of the road, then drove back into the roadway and flipped.

The crash happened just before 6 a.m., according to the NCSHP.

Troopers told Channel 9 the person who died was a passenger and did not have a seatbelt on. They added that speed appears to be a factor. Three other people in the truck were transported to the hospital for their injuries.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

NCSHP hasn’t said if the driver in the crash will face charges. The crash is still under investigation.
