13-year-old dies after being hit by car in north Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 13-year-old girl has died from her injuries after she was struck by a car Friday afternoon in north Charlotte.

The girl, whose name has not be released, was hit at North Tryon and Orr streets just before 5 p.m.

Police said the teen was standing in the middle of a crosswalk.  The vehicle that hit her had a green light at the time of the crash and stopped immediately.

"It saddens my heart. My prayers go out to the family," said Alford Ellis Jr., a driver passing by. "I hope they're able to resolve this situation quickly."

Speed and alcohol use were not a factor in the crash, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Crum at (704) 432-2169.
