Pedestrian struck, killed by deputy in Rockingham County identified as Concord teen

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A local teenager walking in Rockingham was struck and killed by a deputy Thursday evening.

Troopers said 19-year-old Nicholas Masters, of Concord, was walking on U.S. 29 just before 8 p.m. in Rockingham County when a sheriff’s deputy hit him with his car.

The Sheriff’s Office said the lighting is not good on that stretch of the road. They also don’t know why Masters was in the road.

Troopers said Deputy Landon Pulliam, of Reidsville, was driving the patrol car during the fatal crash.

Officers said Masters was wearing blue jeans, a dark vest, a white shirt and a black backpack.

Authorities are investigating.
