Pet owners find more shelter options during Florence

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It can be a difficult decision to make, whether to evacuate your home when it’s in the path of a hurricane. It can be even more difficult for pet owners who are worried if they’ll be able to find an emergency shelter that accepts pets.

In 2006, an Associated Press poll found that 44 percent of the people who did not evacuate during Hurricane Katrina, didn't do so because of their pets.
