Flames destroy Hickory home as firefighters battle extreme temps

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — A fire destroyed a home in Hickory Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters battled flames and soaring temperatures at the house on Deerfield Lane.

Firefighters said when they got to the scene flames had already burned through the roof.

Because temperatures were in the 90s and with the high humidity as many as seven different departments were called in to fight the fire.

Firefighters said no one was hurt and they are trying to determine what started the fire.

The house was charred from the flames.
