CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The first of two office buildings at a South End development is finishing up construction as work begins on the second.

Charlotte-based The Spectrum Cos. this month began foundation work for the 286,000-square-foot east tower at Vantage South End, an approximately $300 million development that will include two 11-story office buildings, retail space, a park and hotel.

The 5-acre block, formerly home to a midrise office building and surface parking, is bounded by Carson Boulevard and Tryon, Catherine and Winnifred streets.

Spectrum broke ground on the first 326,800-square-foot building, at 1120 S. Tryon St., last summer with an anchor tenant. LendingTree (NASDAQ: TREE) will lease about 175,000 square feet, or five-and-a-half floors, at Vantage’s west tower for its headquarters. The company’s lease size has not changed since it initially signed on.

The first building is scheduled to deliver in January and upfit work at LendingTree’s space has begun, said Steve McClure, chief operating officer at The Spectrum Cos. The second office building, which has slightly smaller floorplates than the first because of building and site design, would likely deliver in the first quarter of 2022.
