• Police say 18-month-old shot by accident Friday

    BESSEMER CITY, N.C. - Gaston County Police responded to a shooting Friday night at 310 S. Skyland Dr. in Bessemer City. 

    The victim in the case is an 18-month-old boy. The victim was at the residence with his father and 8-year-old sibling at the time of the incident.

    The victim sustained a single gunshot wound to the left shoulder and was taken to Levine’s Children’s Hospital in Charlotte for treatment.  The injury was non-life-threatening.

     Neighbors who were familiar with the little boy called him friendly. 

    "Anytime I'd take my daughter she'd hollar hey and he'd hollar back hey to her," said one neighbor.

    The shooting is being investigated as an accident and no foul play is suspected in the incident.  The investigation is continuing and further information will be released as it becomes available.
