Troopers: 2 teens airlifted after getting hit by truck in Burke Co.

DREXEL, N.C. — Two teens were hit and injured by a pickup truck in Burke County Thursday night, troopers said.

Troopers said Tyler Carswell, 18, and Kevin Moody, 19, were crossing Highway 70 in Drexel about 8 p.m. when they were struck by the truck.

Investigators said the driver of the truck was turning right from Drexel Road onto Highway 70 and didn't see the teens crossing the road.

Troopers said Carswell was thrown from the impact and Moody was run over by the truck.

Moody was flown by helicopter to Carolinas Medical Center where he went through surgery.  His condition was not released.

Carswell was flown to Mission Hospital in Asheville where he is listed in stable condition.

Troopers said the driver of the truck did pull over after the accident.

Police said they are still investigating, but no charges have been filed.
