LINCOLNTON, N.C. — Police say someone led them on a chase on a stolen ATV on Thursday morning around 8:50 a.m.
Officers say they saw a man riding a stolen ATV just outside Lincolnton.
Two Lincoln County Sheriff's deputies were stationary in the parking lot of Hope Baptist Church on Salem Road shortly after 3:00 a.m. when the saw an ATV followed closely by a car traveling south on Salem Road.
The officers went to investigate and the two vehicles attempted to flee.
They say the ATV struck the patrol car, went off the road, hit a ditch, and threw the rider.
Johnathan Heath Williams, 26, of Victor Woods Drive, Lincolnton was transported to CMC-Lincoln with head injuries then airlifted to CMC.
Police say the driver of the car was James Harris, 50.
Harris was arrested on Generals Blvd. in Lincolnton.
The accident is under investigation by the State Highway Patrol.
