Police: Father faces charges after secretly recording babysitter

UNION COUNTY — A Wesley Chapel man is facing multiple criminal charges after investigators said he was secretly recording his children's babysitter.

Union County deputies arrested Edward O'Brien Saturday on charges of indecent liberties, secret peeping, and sexual battery.

Authorities said O'Brien hired the teen girl to watch his two young children, and one day while the teen was bathing with one of the young children, investigators said she noticed a cellphone on a bathroom shelf.

"She went back in the bathroom and discovered that she was being recorded on a device," said Detective Megan Gutierrez. "There's no doubt in my mind that this isn't the first time."

According to court records, O'Brien also tickled the girl, and grabbed her thighs. Investigators said on one occasion, O'Brien also fondled himself in front of the teen.

"She was very embarrassed," Gutierrez said, and told Channel 9 that's when the teen told her parents what had been going on inside O'Brien's home.

Eyewitness News went to O'Brien's home Monday seeking comment but no one answered the door.

Authorities said the married father of two and business owner has been released from jail on a $75,000 bond and has been ordered not to have contact with the victim.
