CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting outside of a southwest Charlotte apartment complex on March 23 was brought back to Mecklenburg County Tuesday.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department arrested Taravares Lee Greer, 40, in Milwaukee last month.

The shooting happened on Parkaire Lane at South Tryon Street.

In a 911 call, you can hear the caller urging the dispatcher to send emergency crews quickly to the scene.

"Someone just got shot," the caller said.

"You need police, fire or MEDIC?" the dispatcher asked.

"Police! Ambulance! Hurry up! Hurry up," the caller said.

Police said when officers arrived on the scene, they found 32-year-old Leonard Lee Bowie Jr., who had been shot several times.

MEDIC took Bowie to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

CMPD said officers typically investigate crimes such as car break-ins in that part of Charlotte.

"The calls for service they receive here are usually related to property crimes like car break-ins, so violent crime in this area is (abnormal)," CMPD Major Ryan Butler said.

Those who live in the area said they agree.

"There's always wrecks out here and everything, but as far as that happening, that's never happened here," neighbor Jessica Abshire said.

Neighbors said they were left on edge after the shooting and before the supect was arrested.

"Bang, bang, bang, and then all of a sudden they heard sirens. Being so close to home, that's kind of scary because they don't know who did it as far as I know," Abshire said.

Greer was taken into custody without incident.

He was arrested on the following outstanding warrants:

    • Murder
    • Firearm by felon
    • Discharging a firearm within an enclosure to incite fear
