CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Mysheca Milhouse is grieving for her husband, Quinton, and is questioning how he died in police custody.

Police were called to a neighborhood for an assault between Quinton Milhouse and another man and were told one of them had a gun.

Officers separated the two men, and then realized Quinton Milhouse was severely hurt and stopped breathing.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said medic officials, who were already on the scene, took Quinton Milhouse to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His wife said it took too long to get help.

"I'm going to find out why this happened to my husband," Mysheca Milhouse said.

CMPD said in a statement, "Detectives with the Homicide/ADW Unit are conducting the death investigation while detectives with the Internal Affairs Unit will conduct a separate but parallel investigation to determine whether or not CMPD policies and procedures were adhered to during the course of the incident which is standard procedure whenever there is a death while in custody."

This is the standard procedure when there is a death in police custody.

"My husband was a God-fearing man. Everyone has problems and makes mistakes. One thing is for sure -- he loved people," Mysheca Milhouse said.

She said she will be awaiting any answers from the police.
