CHARLOTTE — Police are looking into whether rainy conditions played a role in a crash that left a man dead Wednesday night in east Charlotte.
Officers were called around 10:30 p.m. to the crash scene on North Sharon Amity Road near Kimmerly Glen Lane.
According to police, 34-year-old Sui Lian Thang was killed. He was the only person in the car.
Channel 9 crews could see a white car that appeared to have driven off the road and into some trees.
Investigators said Thang was driving a Toyota Corolla northeast on North Sharon Amity Road when the car went off the left side of the road and hit a raised, concrete center median.
The car traveled in the median for about 200 feet before coming back onto the pavement and then running off the right side of the road, where the driver’s door area struck a tree, police said.
Investigators said weather conditions and a wet road are contributing factors in the crash. It was raining at the time.
Speed and impairment are also suspected to be contributing factors, and test results are pending, police said.
