• Police: Man arrested, accused of sexually assaulting 9-month-old

    GASTON COUNTY - According to Gaston County Police, a man has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 9-month-old baby.

    Police have arrested Michael McCord Crowder, 56, of Gastonia. They say Crowder reached out to victim, and fondled her by placing his two fingers up and into the baby’s diaper.

    After many unsuccessful attempts the suspect also pulled down a female adult’s pants, exposing her to those around her. The female victim, 30, told the suspect to stop trying to pull her pants down multiple times.

    Police say the incident occurred on Sunday.

    Crowder has been charged with sexual assault and battery, and statutory sex offense by adult.

    He is being held on $1 million bond.
