Police: Man charged after teen hospitalized after drinking at his house

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Police said a Gaston County man let two young teens drink alcohol in his home until one girl passed out.

The girl was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The man's attorney called Channel 9 and said James Nolen said he had no idea the teens were at his home.

He said he did not give them alcohol and that they brought their own.

Nolen did agree to let his 20-year-old son have a party.

The attorney said news about the part spread quickly on Twitter and by text and there were soon dozens of students at his home after the Friday night football game.

A 14-year-old girl drank so much alcohol she had to be taken to the hospital.

A 15-year-old told police Nolen knew minors were drinking and provided the alcohol for them.

The attorney said Nolen's son tried to get people to leave, but they refused until a neighbor called 911.

"It looks like they were having a party or something and a fight broke out. (He's) trying to get them out of his yard and stuff and I can't really see, but it's a whole bunch of noise," the caller said.

Nolen is charged with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

His attorney said he has never been in this kind of trouble and he is prepared to fight the charges in court.
