PINEVILLE, N.C. — Police are searching for a man who they said robbed a credit union wearing a Darth Vader mask.

Witnesses told police that the man was about 5 feet, 5 inches tall and was wearing dark clothing, including the mask.

The man got away with thousands of dollars before jumping into a gray four-door Chevrolet Suburban and taking off, according to a police report.

"You think about what time of day it was. It was right around lunchtime (in a) very busy area, (a) very busy intersection in our town," said Lt. Corey Copley of the Pineville Police Department. "(There's) a lot of foot traffic in and out of the bank at that time of day. This is definitely something unusual that you don't see every day in law enforcement."

No one was injured during the robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Pineville Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division at 704-889-2231.
