Police: Man shot outside diner in South End

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers said a man was shot in the leg Friday morning near a popular South End diner.

Police said 29-year-old Khoy Blasi-Diggs was shot in the leg at about 2:30 a.m. on Morehead Square Drive next to the Midnight Diner.

One witness said Blasi-Diggs was walking when a car approached him and three to four people got out.

"He walked up on them and they let off one shot," a witness said. "Soon as they let off, one shot, he just dropped."

Police wouldn't say where the victim was going or what led up to the shooting.

Neighbors who moved to the area for its safety and security were shocked.

"It's really sad to hear. Living a couple of blocks away you wouldn't think this kind of thing would happen in this area," said Adam Reichenbach.

Very few violent crimes in the area since the start of the year, but there was another shooting near the Midnight Diner in December 2012.
