Police say video shows 3 suspects involved in Walmart robbery

MONROE, N.C. — Monroe police released surveillance video that they said shows three suspects involved in a robbery with a dangerous weapon.

The video shows three men leave a Walmart in Monroe. Shortly after, police said one of the men pulled a weapon on a young woman, took some of her things and ran.

"The other males had the vehicle waiting, they fled the scene," said Detective Jonathan Williams, with Monroe Police.

According to the police report the men took the woman's phone, her purse and her jewelry.

"I think it's sad," said James Taylor, a shopper. "It can really happen anywhere."

Eyewitness News ran into a college student who was shopping with a friend. When it's dark out, for safety, she said she tries to travel in pairs.

"If I can't, I have my keys out or I'm on my phone," said Amanda George, a shopper.

News of this crime has her thinking more about safety as Monroe Police are asking the public to take a look at the video they have released and contact them if you recognize any of the men.

"Sometimes that one little bit of information is something that solves the whole case," Williams said.

Eyewitness News did reach out to Walmart. A spokesperson said the safety of customers and employees is important. The company has security measures in place and works with police. The spokesperson also said that if customers feel unsafe, they should ask an associate to walk them to their car.
