Police charge driver who hit, killed bicyclist in west Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police charged Phillip Andrew Shook, 38, after they said he struck and killed a bicyclist Friday night in west Charlotte, and then drove away.

The collision happened just before midnight on Wilkinson Boulevard, near Moores Chapel Road.

Police said that 28-year-old Jessie Miller was riding his bike in the left eastbound lane when the driver hit him from behind.

Miller died at the scene.

Investigators told Channel 9 that he was not wearing a helmet, but that his bike had front and rear lights.

Shook was charged with felony hit-and-run.
