Power restored hours after car hits utility pole, leaving thousands in the dark

CHARLOTTE — Duke Energy crews worked throughout the night to restore power to people living in University City after police said a car slammed into a utility pole Thursday night.

At one point, more than 5,000 customers were in the dark, but as of 6 a.m. Friday, all power had been restored.

The collision happened at about 8:35 p.m. on University City Boulevard and caused crews to shut down traffic between East Mallard Creek Church Road and Pavilion Boulevard.

One person was treated for minor injuries.
