President Trump approves NC disaster relief, plans to visit region next week

NORTH CAROLINA — President Donald Trump has approved a disaster declaration for North Carolina as Florence continues to push through the region.

This means federal funding will be available to those affected by the storm in the counties of Beaufort, Brunswick, Carteret, Craven, New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, and Pender.

The announcement said "assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster."

Trump is also preparing to travel to areas impacted by the path of Hurricane Florence next week.

Press Secretary Sarah Sanders released a statement Friday saying Trump will travel to the region "early next week."

It is unknown at this time when Trump will arrive. Sanders said plans for the trip will be finalized at a later time "once it is determined his travel will not disrupt any rescue or recovery efforts."
