Rea Road construction causes  delays up to 45 minutes

A road-widening project for Rea Road is causing major traffic complications from Highway 51 to Colony Road.

Drivers said they wait as long as 45 minutes to get through the intersection that sees up to 30,000 cars daily.

Workers have been tearing up the pavement and doing prep work for extra turn lanes.

The entire intersection will be repaved at the conclusion of the project.

Charlotte resident John Jacobs said, "My car is overheating and I'm almost out of gas. Nowhere to turn around either."

The new road will have extra lanes for cars, bikes and sidewalks.

Construction crews plan to start repaving Tuesday and to be done with the project Wednesday.
