Registered sex offender accused of sexually assaulting child in Lincoln County

LINCOLNTON, N.C. — A Lincolnton man is behind bars facing felony charges of indecent liberties with a child.

Kevin Dale Gray, 47, a registered sex offender, is accused of inappropriately touching a 13-year-old female.

Police said Gray is charged with picking up the girl in his vehicle under the pretense of taking her out to eat with another juvenile and two other adults.

Officials said Gray picked up the young girl before he was allegedly going to pick up the others and told her that he needed to go by his home because he forgot his wallet. When they arrived at the home, the young girl waited in the car but eventually went inside after Gray came out and told her he needed to charge his cellphone.

The victim was sitting on a couch when Gray is accused of touching her inappropriately. Officials said the girl pushed him off and demanded he take her home. She was dropped off at the top of the driveway at her home.

Deputies couldn’t locate Gray at his home but officers said they learned that he was on active parole and was wearing an electronic monitor. Probation and parole officers were able to determine his location and deputies arrested him without incident.

Gray appeared before a Lincoln County magistrate and was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond. He was later served with a probation violation warrant that carried a no bond hold.

Gray was convicted on second-degree rape in January 2003 and served 14 years and one month before being released in February 2018.
