Restaurant Bites: Optimist Park food hall, uptown spots and more on Charlotte’s dining scene

CHARLOTTE — New restaurants are coming to uptown, a food hall has opened in the Optimist Park area, and another longtime Charlotte eatery is closed. These tidbits are among the latest food-and-drink news across the Charlotte area, as reported by CBJ in April.

In Uptown, several restaurants are headed to Duke Energy Plaza at 525 S. Tryon St. this fall and next year. That tower, which serves as the new headquarters for Duke Energy Corp., will add two concepts by Joe and Katy Kindred — another location of all-day cafe milkbread and a new, upscale restaurant named Albertine — as well as two fast-casual eateries, Que Fresa Taqueria + Bar and Somi Sushi.

Nearby, the Urban District Market food hall opened in mid-April as part of a larger adaptive-reuse project at the former Lawrence Knitting Mills building, at 2315 N. Davidson St. The food hall currently houses six tenants, including LaBARatory, a brewery and soju distillery by the owners of Seoul Food Meat Co., and will continue adding stalls.

And there were more restaurant closures in the Charlotte market last month. That includes Gus’ Sir Beef Restaurant in east Charlotte, which closed for good after more than 50 years in business.

Other recent happenings in Charlotte’s food scene include the openings of a new restaurant in lower South End called State of Confusion and a third location for locally based deli The Good Wurst Co. at Riverbend Village.
