Restaurateur wants to create entertainment hub in lower South End

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Businessman and restaurateur Birdie Yang wants to create a hub for retail, restaurants and entertainment in lower South End.

Yang — behind restaurants Yama and Baku in Charlotte — is on the way to making that a reality. His NC LoSo LLC recently purchased three Dewitt Lane properties from Beacon Partners for a total of 27,720 square feet.

The price tag was $6 million. Yang expects to invest another $8 million into transforming that 1.25-acre parcel in LoSo Village.

“It’s missing something over there. They need something in their neighborhood,” Yang says.

The former New Yorker says his goal is to create a walkable entertainment complex, with as many as six different concepts. There will be a focus on green space. Think a park feel with seating, patios and even a statement art piece.
