• Rising high school freshman killed in ATV accident

CHERAW - A rising high school freshman died Friday night in an ATV accident.

Trace Shipley, 14, had just finished eighth grade at Long Middle School in Cheraw.

Family members told Channel 9 reporter Alexa Ashwell Trace was riding his ATV with his mother and brother near their home on McMillan Road.

They said Trace went to turn around on McMillian Road and he turned into the path of a truck traveling eastbound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers were on the scene Saturday reconstructing the accident.

Donations are being accepted to help Trace’s family with memorial arrangements. If you are interested in donating, click here.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Long Middle School in the gym. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Cheraw First Baptist Church.
