Rural counties yet to see confirmed cases of COVID-19 are taking preemptive steps

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — You hear a lot about the big cities dealing with coronavirus, but it’s also starting to spread in some of our smaller communities, while others – like Chesterfield County -- haven't had a single confirmed case yet.

Channel 9 South Carolina bureau reporter Greg Suskin traveled to Chesterfield County on Monday and said people there are paying close attention to the pandemic.

Small towns thrive on personal contact and family businesses. In Chesterfield County, many of those places are closed -- not because they've been ordered to, but because they are trying to do their part to protect their neighbors.
