Salisbury student accused of spitting on officer

SALISBURY, N.C. — (AP) A Salisbury High School student has been arrested and accused of spitting on a police officer.

The Salisbury Post reported the 16-year-old male has been charged with misdemeanor larceny and felony malicious conduct by a prisoner.

Authorities said a student had placed a cellphone on a ledge and the phone was stolen. Capt. Shelia Lingle said the school resource officer reviewed video camera footage and saw the suspect taking the phone.

Lingle said the resource officer placed the student under arrest and the officer said the student spit on her and called her a "pig."

Lingle said the officer retrieved the phone.
