SC Gov. Haley, military work to get vets jobs

COLUMBIA, S.C. — (AP) South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and state officials are working together to help the state's military veterans find jobs in the civilian world.

The governor and the state Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Robert Livingston, are announcing details Wednesday in Columbia.

In a program Livingston began several years ago, the Guard was able to bring the 16 percent unemployment rate among its members down to less than 4 percent.

Many of the South Carolina Army and Air National Guard's 11,000 men and women deployed in recent years to Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo and Kuwait.

However, deployments among Guard and active duty military could become less frequent if Pentagon cutbacks announced this week are enacted.

In December, the state's jobless rate was reported as 6.6 percent.
