CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. — The nation’s largest winemaker has taken a big step toward establishing its East Coast hub in South Carolina.
The S.C. House of Representatives passed a bill Tuesday that would allow E & J Gallo Winery to operate three satellite tasting rooms throughout that state. The tasting rooms would accompany Gallo’s proposed $400 million project in Chester County — a project expected to create up to 500 jobs in the first eight years. The operations would include bottling, warehousing, a distribution center, an import hub and can manufacturing. Gallo, which is based in Modesto, California, would house its operations at a 640-acre site in Fort Lawn.
