• SC soldier, 24, killed in Afghanistan


    AFGHANISTAN - A South Carolina soldier was killed in Afghanistan.

    Sgt. Channing B. Hicks, 24, of Greer, was based at Fort Riley, Kansas.

    He and and Spc. Joseph A. Richardson, 23, of Booneville, Ark., died when an improvised explosive device and small arms fire hit their unit on Friday.

    The soldiers were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, at Fort Riley.
