• SC transportation secretary says state needs $30 billion

    Updated:

SOUTH CAROLINA - A new assessment by South Carolina's transportation secretary said the state needs $30 billion in the next 20 years.

The money would go to fixing highways, bridges and mass transit systems.

Without the new revenue, the secretary said his department will have to deal with the deteriorating highway system.

Lawmakers said they are not sure when they will be able to take up the issue.
