• Police investigating possible missing person in Catawba River

BELMONT N.C. - The Belmont Police Department is investigating a possible missing person at the boat landing on the Catawba River in Belmont.

Dive teams searched Sunday but were unable to locate anyone.

Police roped off the area as they processed the scene.

Crews were called in after someone reported an empty wheelchair and a fishing pole near a dock.

"His tackle box is over there, his fishing rods are still over there and one of the lines I noticed is still out in the water," said Bob Culp, a fisherman. "So whatever happened to him, it's weird. Nobody knows."
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Lieutenant J. B. Davis with the Belmont Police Department at 704-866-3300.
