• Domestic violence suspect arrested after leading police on chase, CMPD says

    Updated:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Police have arrested a man on domestic violence charges after he reportedly led police on a chase into the University City area.

The chase ended on Breezehill Lane off Harris Houston Road, where they had a perimeter set up and dogs searching for 28-year-old Ervin Goode.

Around 4 a.m., officers tried to stop the car because Goode was wanted in a domestic violence case.

Police said he had been to the victim's house two times throughout the night.

The first time, the victim reported Goode pointed a gun at her. Police said he returned and assaulted her by pushing her to the ground, choking her and taking her phone while she was trying to call 911.

Officers had warrants for assault by pointing a gun, assault by strangulation, assault on a female and interfering with emergency communications.

They tried stopping the car on Interstate 485, but said he took off and police continued to follow him. The pursuit ended near Breezehill Lane when Goode jumped from the car and ran.

The department's K-9 unit responded to the area to try to track Goode, but they were unable to find him.

Officials said around 5:30 a.m., officers who were protecting the victim spotted Goode and ran after him. A CMPD K-9 officer also responded and was able to find Goode.
