Second Topgolf location for Charlotte moves step forward

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte’s second Topgolf facility is moving ahead with a submitted rezoning petition with the city.

Dallas-based Topgolf, which develops golf-entertainment venues, is seeking a site plan amendment that will allow digital screens in outdoor areas on its future site, which will be part of a larger mixed-use entertainment district off University City Boulevard in north Charlotte. Developers Arden Group and Cambridge Properties rezoned the 14.2-acre site earlier this year to allow mixed-use development, including Topgolf’s 80,000-square-foot facility.

A spokeswoman for Topgolf said Monday the company is still several months away from confirming details regarding construction and that Topgolf is in the very early stages of permitting. The University City Boulevard location will include 102 hitting bays, the same as an existing Topgolf facility here, but will be a new design model, she added.

Topgolf’s first venue here opened to much fanfare in June 2017 at West Arrowood Road and Interstate 485 in southwest Charlotte. That 65,000-square-foot venue includes hitting bays, a full-service restaurant, two bars and private event space.
